Smart birdhouse
An autonomous station that listens to, identifies and documents bird species through a camera and an accessible interface.
Bird Station is a smart birdhouse that analyses bird calls locally. Its internal camera can provide a live view of the surrounding area and the birds that choose it as a nest.
The first prototype uses a Raspberry Pi 4, USB microphone, Raspberry Camera Module 3 NoIR and the open-source BirdNET system.
Tests in two areas of the province of Salerno detected several species with good recognition accuracy. A simplified TV interface can also be operated by remote control.
